Frequently Asked Questions

Are the chicks sexed?

-Yes, the chicks are sexed from the hatchery to be 95% positive all hens.

Am I guaranteed to get a hen?

-No. Although every effort is made to sell all hens, there is a 5% chance of getting a rooster. There are no exchanges and no refunds.

Can I return a chick?

-No. All chick sales are final. Due to restrictions from the CA Dept. of Food & Ag, we can not take returns of baby chicks. Once they leave the property, they can not return. This is also for bio-security to ensure no diseases are being spread.

What do I do if I get a rooster?

-Because of the restrictions described above, we can not take roosters in. Should you get an unwanted rooster, you can give us a call and we can help facilitate a new home for them.

Are the chicks vaccinated?

-Yes. All chicks are vaccinated by the hatchery for Typhoid (required by law to ship them). We also vaccinate our birds for Merricks disease. Merricks has had a history of popping up in this area and the only way to vaccinate for it is to do it at the first day of life for the bird. More info on Merricks Disease.

Can I reserve chicks ahead of time?

-No. We do not allow reservations of chicks and do not have the facility to hold chicks for people. All chicks are sold first come, first served.

Do you have all the supplies I need?

-Oh yeah! We carry all the supplies you need to raise your chicks and keep you new hens happy and healthy. Check them out here.

How do I keep my chicks warm?

-We recommend a heat light for your chicks to keep them warm and healthy. We sell brooder lamps and 250 watt bulbs that put off plenty of heat. A standard clamp light will also work with a 100 watt incandescent bulb (do not use LED bulbs).

Do I need to bring a box?

- You are welcome to bring something to transport the chicks in, but we are happy to give you a box to take them home in.

How many can I purchase?

Due to the extreme popularity of chicks right now, we have limited chick sales to a maximum of 8 chicks (limit 2 on Extremely Rare Breeds).

I have more questions about how to raise them. Can you help?

-Absolutely! Our trained staff will tell you all you need to know about raising chicks. We will give you a care and handling sheet and a recommended supplies list.
